FAQ
Questions teams ask.
Do we have to self-host?
You can — that's the point of Gitxen, and it's how you get full data sovereignty. We also run a hosted instance at gitxen.com for teams who want the experience without operating it.
How is this different from just running GitLab or Gitea?
Two things: Gitxen is AI-native — a multi-model Copilot and an MCP registry are part of the platform, not bolted on — and it's one integrated product (code, CI, codespaces, packages, security, marketplace) rather than a core plus a wall of extensions to assemble.
Can we bring our own AI keys?
Yes. You choose the provider and model and use your own keys, so AI usage is billed by your provider at cost, never marked up per seat.
Is our code ever sent to a third party?
On a self-hosted instance, no — your repositories, history, secrets and build logs stay inside your boundary. The AI provider only sees what you send it, with your own key.
Can we migrate off GitHub or GitLab?
Yes — import and mirror repositories from GitHub, GitLab, Gitea, Bitbucket or any Git host. It's standard Git underneath, so you can leave just as easily.
